Slow River 2.17

Comments from LisaProof that I am a masochist: the color scheme I chose for Diana’s armor. My computer must have agreed, because it gave up the ghost after I opened all the files I needed to create this page.

Comments from the ArtistThere is a tradition in the pop-cultural arts for women to wear incredibly impractical armor with notable gaps in its protection. The common term is “chainmail bikini.” Diana chooses not to follow this tradition, which is a pity since her armor is just a spiritual manifestation, and it could look like whatever she wanted it to.

In fact, it’s more or less real armor, somewhat exaggerated. I used pictures of real armor as a guideline. It’d be weird to wear plate armor and carry a round shield, and the sword is a little over the top, but hey, spiritual manifestation. The round shield isn’t even all that bad an idea for Diana. She doesn’t have a spiritual horse, so she doesn’t really need a kite shield.

We’re sorry for the delay. Lisa’s computer died, and on top of that, this page was no doubt a pain in the ass to color.

PAGE 17

Panel 1 (Herbert Farm, Day)

Diana’s standing up with her cool spirit armor on, and the spirits continue to flee. Phoebe is off to one side, with Gus’ charm in hand.

Diana: (says something to the spirits, not sure what right now)

Panel 2 (Herbert Farm, Day)

Phoebe’s got a big grin on her face, maybe Diana looking a bit tired?

Phoebe: That armor and sword look is cool.

Diana: You could have something like it if you wanted. You know how to do it.

Phoebe: Nah, not my thing. You okay?

Diana: Yes. I was prepared this time. Burned out six months worth of stored mana, though.

Panel 3 (Herbert Farm, Day)

Diana and Phoebe talking, Di’s spirit armor fading away.

Diana: Where were you? When the dog spirit arrived, I didn’t see you.

Phoebe: The farm is haunted, by one of the Herbert kids. A little boy.

Diana: You made contact?

Phoebe: Yup. But the arrival of the spirits scared him off.
