Slow River 2.8

Comments from LisaOne of the things I enjoy the most about writing the script is coming up with the dialog. It’s a real challenge to convey information to the reader and get a character’s personality across at the same time.

Yes, Phoebe can be flippant about magic. It’s just the way she talks. She’s still as devout as Diana is. It’s just not in her nature to be overly serious about stuff. So, when she does get serious about something, that’s a sure fire sign that something is wrong.

Comments from the ArtistIn retrospect, greying out Diana didn’t work so well. Oh well. In general, I think it’s a nice looking page. It’s hard to come up with different views of the van to keep things from being boring.

PAGE 8

Panel 1 (in the van, morning)
Diana’s in the driver’s seat, Phoebe in the passenger seat.

Phoebe: Where are we going again?
Diana: I think we’ll check out the Herbert farm first. It’s the furthest one out from town.
Phoebe: Good idea. That should limit the ambient crap you’ll have to deal with.

Panel 2 (in the van, morning)
Diana’s in the driver’s seat, Phoebe in the passenger seat.

Diana: You still haven’t bothered to learn the proper terms, have you.
Phoebe: I learned Aunt Evie’s lessons as well as you did, sis.
Diana: And…?
Phoebe: It is crap. What else do you call the pollution of negative emotions and ambient spiritual interference.

Panel 3 (in the van, morning)
Diana’s in the driver’s seat, Phoebe in the passenger seat.

Diana: It’s just… “Crap” doesn’t sound very respectful. It’s people’s pain, and spirits’ pain.
Phoebe: So what do you call it?
Diana: I call it crap, but I’m respectful about it.
