Slow River 2.1

Comments from LisaAnd so the next chapter of the Slow River story starts. David’s going with a different style for the pages. Please let us now what you think!

Now that the second chapter is underway, we’re doing the promised off-day updates. Every Sunday (or as close to every Sunday as we can manage it), we’ll be posting something extra for you. These posts will be used to give out background info on the world about things the twins may or may not have encountered.

Comments from the ArtistDespite the fact that Phoebe looks kind of like a mutant, I’m fairly happy with this page. You’ll notice that the format has changed. Now, instead of variable panels all over the place, they’re all 1/3 panels. It’s occasionally limiting, but I think it gives the comic a nice “letterbox” appearance.

Panel 3 has two “Easter eggs.” The poster in the back is based on the movie posters for The Jazz Singer, and there’s a cameo of my friend Chris down front, partly covered up by the dialog box.

DOMINO GIRLS

SLOW RIVER: EPISODE 1.2

By Lisa Hartjes and David Goodner

PAGE 1

Panel 1 (Location, Day/Night)

Picture of Phoebe alone on a small stage somewhere, performing.

Phoebe: It’s hard to believe it’s been three years since we started playing in clubs. Sure, it was amateur and open mike nights, but that’s how all the greats got their start.

At first, it was just me on stage, and I did okay. It was a blast being on stage, but it didn’t feel right. Like something was missing. So I badgered Diana until she agreed to perform with me.

Sometimes I wish I never had.

Panel 2 (Location, Day/Night)

Picture of Diana and Phoebe on stage

Phoebe: Diana was always more introverted than me. Still is, for that matter. Didn’t like being up in front of crowds. But, like I almost always do, I convinced her to get up on stage with me. We performed Amazing Grace.

And it was amazing. I knew she’d sound great behind a mike, but that night, it was like something magical had happened. Like she’d found herself. And the crowd loved us.

Panel 3 (Location, Day/Night)

Shot of Phoebe and Diana on the stage of a small club, from the viewpoint of a person in the audience, towards the middle or rear of the crowd, so the viewer can get an idea of the number of people there for the show.

Phoebe: After that night, we were a duo on stage too. The Domino Girls. Hell, we had fans show up at each and every show, and every night, the crowd grew. But, like any performer can tell you, that’s not always a good thing.

That’s how Diana met Gerrard.
